Cria Crash Course!
Did you know that in order to be protected from certain diseases a cria will require vaccinations within the first few months after birth?
Newborn animals are susceptible to a group of bacteria called Clostridial bacteria. Found in the environment, these bacteria can cause rapid death in unvaccinated animals. Cria require their first vaccination at 6 weeks of age and then a booster vaccination 4-6 weeks later. The ‘Ultravac 6 in 1’ vaccine is the recommended vaccine.
Ideally, all cria should receive another booster vaccine at 6 months of age and then yearly for the rest of the alpaca’s life!
